The Semantic Web or Web 3.0 will be the next generation of the world wide web. It allows data to be accessed more easily by humans and machines because search is not tied to web pages but the data itself. This means that the latest data will be more easily found because it’s machine readable, resulting in more data being found quickly. It also will make the web more intuitive so that complex commands from humans can be easily processed.

While some are excited about this, it is a little scary. My brain is already overloaded with data, some days much more than I can actually handle, understand or retain. What will I do with more data? I think my head might explode.

On the other hand, the semantic web could make our lives easier. IBM’s Watson can only understand so much today, but when leveraging the semantic web, Watson can respond to detailed requests with ease and accuracy.
